For the people following the YA Crush Tourney, there have been some awesome incentives released by authors to vote for their characters, including this scene by Jennifer L. Armentrout from Obsidian. The scene is awesome, and I although I haven’t read the book yet, I bumped it up on my TBR pile because I’ve realised I need more! Cassandra Clare has also released a few tidbits due to her characters advancing in the Tourney. Will’s win gave us the following (agonising) snippet from Clockwork Princess:
He turned at the familiar voice and saw Tessa. There was a small path cut along the side of the hill, lined with unfamiliar white flowers, and she was walking up it, toward him. Her long brown hair blew in the wind — she had taken off her straw bonnet, and held it in one hand, waving it at him and smiling as if she were glad to see him.
His own heart leaped up at the sight of her. “Tess,” he called. But she was still such a distance away — she seemed both very near and very far suddenly and at the same time. He could see every detail of her pretty, upturned face, but could not touch her, and so he stood, waiting and desiring, and his heart beat like the wings of seagulls in his chest.
At last she was there, close enough that he could see where the grass and flowers bent beneath the tread of her shoes. He reached out for her —
Cassandra also wrote this post on the white-washing of characters and actors, in the context of the casting of Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane. Apparently a lot of her fans were unaware that Magnus is written as Asian, specifically half-Indonesian, and there was a bit of … confusion let’s say. If you follow the link it will take you to all the posts about Godfrey Cassandra has written, including the original post announcing him as Magnus, and an adorable picture of him with a cat (Chairman Meow people, Chairman MEOW!!! <3)
Fans of Partials by Dan Wells will be excited to get extra information on the series’ backstory through The Demoux Archives. These documents, never released, were collected by former ParaGen employee Afa Demoux for nearly 25 years, and provide key insight into life before the Break. There is a sneak peak of the documents at pitchdark.com.
If you loved Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson, you will know that Losing Lila is out on August 2nd, and to whet your appetite there is a short ebook to download: Catching Suki. Head on over to the Simon and Schuster UK Facebook page to check it out!
