Waiting on Wednesday 60

November 6, 2013 Bookish 7

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows readers to showcase eagerly awaited upcoming releases.

This week I’ve picked Defy by Sara B. Larson

Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king’s army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince’s guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can’t prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.

The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she’s sworn to protect?

I saw Defy on the Scholastic catalogue and knew immediately that I’ll be waited with bated breath for this one. I think it’s going to be awesome (and if it’s anything like Tamora Pierce’s Lioness novels, I’ll be so happy!) and I love the cover. It’s so simple and powerful at the same time.

P.S. How do you like the new book-stack image for WoW? I’m learning how to use Smart Objects in Photoshop and this is my second project 🙂 I think it’s turned out well.

I’d love to see what you are waiting on … please leave links and I’ll be sure to check them out!

Nice book stacking! It does look pretty awesome 🙂
This book does sound pretty interesting- but why must all of these types of book all have the prince vs knight/captain of the guard/just a random guard trope! Although I guess when it’s done well I don’t mind e.g. Throne of Glass.

Ahahaha, like I said on Twitter: I hated Throne of Glass. Most useless “Girl Empowering” “Fantasy” I’ve read in a long time. An assassin who lost in all her fights and never actually assassinated anything, except my reading mood. And men just fell over themselves to be with her, because that’s what you do with the most skilled and notorious assassin in the land: you want to kiss her.
