Stocktake Saturday 4 – 2014

February 1, 2014 Stocktake Saturday 5

Welcome to Stocktake Saturday! This feature is where I share some bookish news with you and then show you all the bookish goodies I got over the week.

The cover reveals from the last week – (links to Goodreads pages)

In Bookish News, Strange Chemistry has acquired the rights to A Curse of Ash and Iron by Christine Norris. It will be available in July 2014.

Eleanor Banneker is under a spell, bewitched and enslaved by her evil stepmother. Her long-lost childhood friend, Benjamin Grimm, is the only person immune to the magic that binds her. Even if he doesn’t believe in real magic, he cannot abandon her and must find a way to breach the spell – but time is running short. If he doesn’t succeed before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, Ellie will be bound forever…

And Angry Robot have signed on two new authors: Rod Duncan in a two-book deal, and Kameron Hurley for at least two books! The first of Rod Duncan’s two-book series (entitled The Fall of the Gaslit Empire), The Bullet Catcher’s Daughter, will be released in September 2014, and the sequel, Unseemly Science, will follow in 2015. For Kameron Hurley, the first book of the Worldbreaker Saga, entitled The Mirror Empire, will be published worldwide in September this year, with the sequel to follow a year later.

Rainbow Rowell will be writing two YA romances in the form of graphic novels! No other details yet. Rachel Caine, author of the Morganville Vampires series has signed a deal with NAL for a “young adult fantasy trilogy called the Great Library that is set in an alternate reality”. In the trilogy, the Library of Alexandria still exists and has become all-powerful, and, while there is unfettered access to information digitally, it is a crime to keep print books in any personal collection. The first book in the Great Library series is planned for summer 2015.

The reviews from this week:

My book hauls, beginning as usual with the physical copies, thanks to Random House AU and Hachette AU (links to Goodreads):

  • Tandem (Many Worlds Trilogy #1) by Anna Jarzeb – I’ve already reviewed this, but it’s so wonderful of Random House to send me a review copy in time for the Australian release in February 🙂
  • Burn (Pure #3) by Julianna Baggott

And e-galleys from Netgalley and Edelweiss:

I also bought:

I hope you have some goodies to share as well, leave your links below and I’ll be sure to visit 🙂

Happy Reading!

I’m really interested in both – I didn’t much like Captivate, the first Vanessa Garden book I read, but I’m hoping that a change in genre will endear me to her writing. I had a lot of issues with the setting and plotting of the book and not necessarily the writing itself. And Take Back the Skies looks amaze-sauce!!

I haven’t read a single Rachel Caine thing ever, but hope to one day!!

Of all the covers here, I like those of Tandem and Enmity the most. I love the UK Prince of Fools cover as well though. Enmity reminds me of the US Divergent cover. You should totally get Tandem and read it, the alternate world of Aurora is awesome.
