Aussie YA Bloggers Secret Santa 2014 Blog Hop

December 7, 2014 Blog Tour 17

secretsantabanner

This year I’m taking part in the Australian YA Bloggers & Readers Secret Santa Blog Hop, which is promising to be amazing because I’m visiting all these blogs I’ve never been to before and making new friends, AND we all get presents!

The blog-hop aims to find out if we’ve been naughty or nice this year, and at the end we get to leave three clues about the person we’ve been allocated as part of the Secret Santa.

1. How are you going with your Goodreads challenge?

I think I’m doing well – I’ve read 146/150 books, and am 7 books ahead of schedule. I’ll definitely finish it this year πŸ™‚

2. How many times did you post per week on average? Do you think you’ll post more/less in the future?

I started the year posting about 3-5 times a week, plus doing my Stocktake Saturday. Things got super busy for me near the end of the year and I dropped down to 1-2 posts, but I’m making my way back again to an average of 3 posts a week. Next year will be interesting because it’s the last 9 months of my PhD and I may be posting less, or not at all, in some weeks as everything wraps up.

3. What is your Netgalley ratio?

75.4%

4. Have you been commenting on other blogs?

I’ve tried really hard this year to hop by when people comment on my posts. I still find it a little hard because I don’t like going to someone’s blog and just saying “great post!” as a comment – so although I’ll visit the blogs of everyone who leaves a comment, sometimes I just don’t have anything constructive to say so I’ll make a note to visit later. I always comment back eventually.

5. Did you read mostly review books or non-review books this year?

I read mostly review books, despite trying to challenge myself to read at least 2 non-review books a month to lessen my pile of books that I BUY and then never have time to read. I’ll try to do better next year!

6. What are your blogging goals for 2015?

I’d really just like to focus on not getting super-behind on my review books, which I’m struggling with because I accumulate review books at a faster rate than I can read them! I also have a few design tweaks planned for next year, which will be fun.

7. What is your favourite blogging moment/achievement of 2014?

This year I jokingly said that I’d love to get to a 1000 Twitter followers, and I’m up to around 920 which is amazing! The publisher events like PTA were amazing, and I got to go to Supanova (finally) and came back with tonnes of autographed books that I needed a cardboard box to carry on the train home. My reviews were also quoted inside a few books this year, which is super exciting!

Based on your answers above, do you think you’ve been a good or naughty blogger this year?

It’s a bit awkward for me to say this, but I think I’ve done well this year. It’s certainly been a fun year filled with many a book-related happy-dance, fun people, and awesome times. I’m hoping to continue it next year!

Leave 3 clues to help your santee guess who you are!

1. Snark. You have ALL THE SNARK. Which is why I love you.

2. You have lots of co-bloggers, all over the world.

3. A recent post of yours uses gifs from Batman, How to Train Your Dragon, and The Simpsons πŸ™‚

Thank you so much! I really love this idea, of the secret santa and the blog hop. I’be been introduced to so many amazing blogs and it’s very exciting πŸ™‚

  1. Ebony @ Daring Damsels

Ooh, you’ve done so well with your Goodreads challenge! It’s always a lovely feeling being ahead. πŸ™‚ I think you’ve been a fantastic blogger this year! Design-tweaks are always exciting, so I look forward to seeing those. PTALive was such a great event – I’m so glad I went, even though it was so early on in my blogging career that I didn’t talk to anyone…now, after meeting a few people, I think next year’s PTALive will be even better! πŸ˜€ That’s wonderful that your reviews have been quoted in several books – you must be so proud. πŸ™‚

      Thank you so much *blush*

Yes, I’m the shy person in the corner at these events and it usually takes someone else to make me walk around to say hello to everyone, but I love the blogging events because I can put faces to all the twitter handles and blogs.

  2. Joy @ Thoughts By J

Pretty sure I know who your Santee is Shaheen! Only one person has the snark to fit that description! πŸ˜‰ You have certainly been a wonderful blogger this year and achieved so many brilliant things! I can’t even fathom reading 150 books a year, and you’re doing a PHd as well?! How?!

Can’t wait to see the tweaks you make on the blog! I’m hoping to change the layout as well for the new year. πŸ˜€

Hahaha. She hasn’t dropped by yet, but I hope she knows who she is as well!

Aww thank you, it’s been a tremendous year and I’m really looking forward to big and exciting things next year. I had a stab at changing the blog a little, mostly in terms of making it less pink and a bit easier on the eyes. I hope you it … I am planning a few changes next year: upgrading to Tweak Me 2, and getting the wonderful Ashely to hopefully customise a few things on the homepage a bit more.

  3. Rochelle Sharpe

You have been a terrific blogger, Shaheen!I don’t know how you read and review so much, I think you have blogging super powers. I just love your blog and it was lovely being able to meet you in person. Good luck with finishing your PhD next year and I hope you get to 1000 twitter followers.
    Have a fantastic Christmas πŸ™‚

      Thank youuuu!

Thank you so much for being such a wonderful friend and supporter. Sometimes I get a bit stressed at how much work this *hobby* is, but it’s friends like you that remind me why I love it. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas break, and let’s try and meet up again next year!!

  4. Angelya

Haha, I think I know who your pressie is going to as well πŸ™‚ Great job on (almost) completing your reading challenge, and there’s absolutely nothing awkward about saying you’ve done a great job because you totally have! Have a lovely christmas πŸ™‚

Hahaha, I hope she knows too *dance*

Thank you so much for your kind words πŸ˜€ Have a very Merry Christmas as well!!

  5. Kelly

I sooooo know who your blogger is. There’s only one miss super snarky sassy pants that fits THAT description. You’re so modest, you’re a phenomenal blogger. Organised, in the know and always on top of what’s coming out, when it’s coming out and reviewing it not long afterwards. That Netgalley ratio only proves my point.

Here’s to another year of reading, and hopefully next year I can find more time to hop online for the Aussie twitter Chats <3

Thank you so0o0 much OMG I totally forgot to mention ozyachat. Hahaha, oh well – but it has been one of the more amazing things to happen to me this year, and I hope you can take part of lots and lots of them next year!

    • Shaheen

I’m super bad at reading non-review books. I accumulate them like nothing else: I’m always in the book store going OH YES I’ll totally read this … and then I don’t.

I think I’ll challenge myself again next year and really work hard at it, I have so many amazing books on my shelves that I really want to read πŸ™‚ Thanks for hopping by!!
