Half Wild by Sally Green

Half Wild by Sally Green

Reviews 1 ★★★★

Half Wild is the follow-up to Half Bad. This series follows Nathan Byrn, a half-White and half-Black witch in a world where the two hate each other and don't usually mix. The fact that Nathan's father is the most notorious and dangerous Black witch in existence doesn't help the matter.

I think the first thing I have to tell you about Half Wild is that if you didn't like Half Bad, you probably won't enjoy its sequel. It's more of the same - unusual story-telling and weird characters, blood and guts and gore, and a simplistic world-building schema that doesn't...

Firefight is a wonderful sequel to the heart-stopping Steelheart, delivering all the action, adventure, and fun that readers will expect. It’s an explosive adventure that captured my imagination, and has left me sad that I have to wait so long for the next instalment, Calamity.

Another enchanting and dark fairytale by Sarah Pinborough, Beauty is set before Charm and Poison and allows us to understand those stories a lot better. It introduces us to the prince, the huntsman, a very curious girl, and a deeply disturbing castle.

Brilliantly reimagined and haunting, Charm is a dark and sexy retelling of the Cinderella fairytale with an incredible twist. Charm is a brilliant retelling of Cinderella that takes the well known tale to a whole new level. I am thoroughly enjoying this series and can’t wait to see where the next instalment, Beauty, takes us.

“A wicked, delicious, sexy Snow White fairytale.” Poison is a scrumptious retelling of a classic tale that re-imagines the world and the circumstances of our beloved characters. Pinborough’s evil queen is more sympathetic than expected and her Snow White is adventurous and sassy.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Reviews 1 ★★★

An admirable d├ębut novel that combines a rags-to-riches story with a dystopian world and the powers of the X-Men, Red Queen will please a varied audience. I enjoyed reading it but have to concede that there is almost nothing original about it, and that it ultimately failed to wow me in the way that it could have.
