Fathomless by Jackson Pearce

Fathomless by Jackson Pearce

June 25, 2013 Reviews 1

The Reynolds are a very special family. Why did I not see this before? Silas in Sisters Red, Samuel in Sweetly, and now Celia, Anna and Jane in Fathomless. My mind is blown. Fathomless is a completely different beast from the other two books in this series, I almost don't know what to make of it. It's still spine-tingling and haunting, but it takes the fairy-tale retelling to a new level. I really like what Pearce did has done with the tale of The Little Mermaid - modernising it but taking it back to its gothic roots. Set in the...

Altered by Jennifer Rush

Altered by Jennifer Rush

Once I’d started Altered, I couldn’t put it down! A thrilling ride featuring a secret government organisation and genetic experiments, it’s one of those books that you really enjoy, but once you take a step back you realise a few things didn’t really make sense. Altered features four hunky genetically…

The Monster by Garth Nix & Sean Williams

The Monster by Garth Nix & Sean Williams

May 8, 2013 Reviews 0 ★★★

I think this series is improving: the action is better in this instalment, and the story flows more smoothly. The main premise behind The Monster is intriguing, and it’s definitely executed better than Troubletwisters, but I would have liked to see a discussion of the nature of The Evil and why…

Troubletwisters by Garth Nix & Sean Williams

Troubletwisters by Garth Nix & Sean Williams

May 7, 2013 Reviews 2 ★★½

I’m not in the target audience for this book, so I’m going to try to review this in terms of how I would have liked it when I was (a little) younger. I think Troubletwisters can be summed up rather quickly as simple – simple in plot, characterisation, language and…

Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson

Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson

July 31, 2012 Reviews 1 ★★★★

I’ve read a few less than stellar reviews of Hunting Lila so I was prepared to be disappointed, but perhaps because I wasn’t expecting anything I enjoyed it immensely. For me this book is a thrilling adventure as Lila struggles to understand her powers and find acceptance among the two…
