Thorne by Charlotte McConaghy

I really enjoyed Avery, so I was eager to dive into Thorne and continue the adventure with a new cast of characters. It's taken me months to read this book, but that's not because it wasn't engaging or boring -- lots of personal issues factored into the time it took me to start and finish Thorne. In fact, McConaghy should be praised for writing a story that I could instantly fall back into, even after weeks of absence. I only had to open the book to remember which POV I was reading, what was happening, and why it was interesting....

I’m a sucker for reincarnation stories, so I’ve been looking forward to reading this since I heard about it. I loved The Next Together – the concept is amazing and the execution is brilliant! I loved every moment of my time with all the different versions of Katherine and Matthew. The Next Together transcends the traditional boundaries of genre to give readers a unique story.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Reviews 4 ★★★★★

Iluminae has to be one of the cleverest books I’ve read in a long time. It’s a brilliantly crafted story that has everything – a terrifying AI, an interstellar war, explosions in space, romance, and dark humour. With its gorgeous artwork and unusual presentation, Iluminae is a feast for the eyes. It’s a vivid, emotional, exciting read that will hook most readers.

“This book will break your feelings. Shatter them, then stomp on the resulting little pieces. And you’ll love every moment of it.” There were times where I listened with tears in my eyes. Everything about this book is beautiful, exquisite, and agonising, and the audiobook version is even more so because Khristine Hvam is such a skilled narrator.

Again, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the experience. Khristine Hvam narrates this complex and beautiful take superbly. I loved the voices she gave the characters. Especially Zuzana. She captures the hurt and loss felt by both Karou and Akiva brilliantly. I feel like the really gets the story, the characters, and the world.

I liked The Heir, I think it takes the idea of The Selection and does something new and different with it. I liked getting to know Eadlyn and her siblings, and seeing all my old(er) favourites from the original series.

Another enchanting and dark fairytale by Sarah Pinborough, Beauty is set before Charm and Poison and allows us to understand those stories a lot better. It introduces us to the prince, the huntsman, a very curious girl, and a deeply disturbing castle.

Brilliantly reimagined and haunting, Charm is a dark and sexy retelling of the Cinderella fairytale with an incredible twist. Charm is a brilliant retelling of Cinderella that takes the well known tale to a whole new level. I am thoroughly enjoying this series and can’t wait to see where the next instalment, Beauty, takes us.
