Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows readers to showcase eagerly awaited upcoming releases.
This week I’ve picked The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks
- Expected publication: 2014 by Orbit
- Series: Lightbringer, Book 3
No synopsis available yet!
My love affair with Weeks’ books will undoubtedly continue with The Broken Eye, the third book in his Lightbringer series. I’m guessing there’s going to be blood, awesome magic, and Gavin Guile will pull interesting tricks to get out trouble, all the usual Lightbringer stuff!
The Lightbringer universe is one of the most amazing I’ve ever read about: it features a complex magic system based on splitting light into its component colours and converting that energy into matter, called Luxin. Luxin is then used to build, make weapons, etc. Positions of power are given to those who can manipulate luxin either very skillfully, or handle large amounts of it at once. The government is split up into three branches – The White (the religious leader), the Colors (a bit like Ministers, they’re each in charge of a different aspect of government), and the Prism (the representative of the god Orholam, on earth; although technically the ruler, the Prism has the least governing power of the three). Here’s the synopsis of the first book:
Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. Yet Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: five years to achieve five impossible goals.
When Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he’s willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.
Also, get an eyeful of the amazing covers of this series – they are gorgeous and I’m really sure how anyone walks into a bookstore and leaves without purchasing them!
I’d love to see what you are waiting on … please leave links and I’ll be sure to check them out!
