The Tower Broken by Mazarkis Williams

The Tower Broken by Mazarkis Williams

November 22, 2013 Reviews 1

The Tower Broken is the final book in the Tower and Knife trilogy by Mazarkis Williams, a series I have adored since the first book came out. This book rounds out the story well and answers all the questions and curiosities I'd had, and in general, does a much better job at placing the magic and politics in context than the other books. As with the previous books, The Tower Broken is told from multiple points of view. While I enjoyed, as ever, seeing from Emperor's Sarmin and his wife Mesema's eyes, I sorely missed the voice of the Empire Mother, Nessaket....

Taking up soon after Planesrunner, Be My Enemy follows Everett Singh as he jumps across parallel universes to rescue his father, with the help of the crew of the airship Everness. I really enjoyed this novel and feel it’s even better than the first in terms of action and world-building….

It’s official: Planesrunner is an exhilarating read! It’s a perfectly balanced tale of science and adventure, and I enjoyed it immensely. I am so glad I have the sequel ready to devour! Gemsigns is a book I didn’t know I was desperate to read until I started it. I’ve been searching for a thoughtful, well-written, science fiction novel for a while, and this book ticks all the boxes, and more. Interestingly enough, Gemsigns isn’t about the uprising or revolution of the genetically engineered humans…

Malice by John Gwynne

Malice by John Gwynne

March 28, 2013 Reviews 2 ★★★★

John Gwynne tells his story through the eyes of a large cast of characters, each readily identified with and easy to believe. The striking thing is that Gwynne has chosen characters that are usually looked over to narrate his book: never the power players or chief politicians, but their guards, children,…
