Stocktake Saturday 11

July 14, 2012 Stocktake Saturday 3

Welcome to Stocktake Saturday! This feature is where I share some news with you and then show you all the bookish goodies I got over the week.

First up – cover reveals!

  • Across the Universe, A Million Suns, Shades of Earth by Beth Revis- cover revamps for the whole series.
  • Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare (The Infernal Devices #3)
  • Malice by John Gwynne
  • The Stone Demon by Karen Mahoney (The Iron Witch #3)
  • Tempest and Vortex by Julie Cross – the paperback edition of Tempest will sport the redesigned cover to match Vortex
  • Wolf Pact by Melissa de la Cruz (Wolf Pact #1)

In other book news, there will be a Partials novella being released on August 28th 2012! This will be awesome, I guess they’re gearing up for the release of Fragments!

There has also been quite a bit of buzz about the City of Bones movie: Jamie Campbell-Bower and Lily Collins were in Toronto this week for some pre-production fun. They look awesome together (see picture here), I can’t wait to see the chemistry between them on-screen. They did spend a lot of time together, I’m assuming to get to know one another well because I imagine acting out a romance with a complete stranger is difficult, and rumours are already flying around about the two dating. I’m sort of sick of all the couples in movies and on TV hooking up, seems like cheap publicity to me, so I’m unsure how I feel about that, but luckily, my opinion doesn’t count! 🙂 However, these pictures show them holding hands a lot so perhaps there’s some truth to those rumours, only time will tell!
Robert Sheehan has been officially cast as Simon Lewis for the movie. You may know him as Nathan from Misfits. Also, Constantin and Screen Gems have signed on two actors to play Blackwell and Pangborn (Valentine’s right hand guys) in The Mortal Instruments movie. Robert Maillet (the giant guy whacking Robert Downey Jr with a mallet in Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows) is playing Blackwell and Kevin Durand (I Am Number Four) is playing Pangborn. You can see photos of them here. Filming on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones begins on August 15 and the film will hit theatres in August 2013.

The official Sony-designed movie poster title treatment for Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was also released, prompting a flurry of fan-designed movie posters. Some are really good, I’d suggest heading over to Cassandra Clare’s Tumblr to see them. And as you can see above, the cover of Clockwork Princess was released – via a gigantic Twitter movement where fans had to get the cover reveal trending at #1 for the cover to be unveiled.

The last Shadowhunter related tid-bit I have to share is less news and more interesting fact – Cassandra Clare routinely answers questions from her fans through her Tumblr site, and she was asked recently for Will and Jem’s middle names. Her response:

Will’s middle name is Owen. It was his mother’s maiden name. It’s a nod to his Welsh heritage, too, if you know who Owain Glyndŵr was.

Welsh was heavily suppressed by the English during the earlier Victorian era. Will’s family would probably only have spoken it at home. This would have annoyed his mother so giving her son a Welsh middle name would have been a minor act of rebellion. If you want to yell at Will in Welsh, his Welsh name is Gwilym Owain Herondale.

Jem doesn’t have a middle name. Not everyone did in the 1800’s anyway. He has a Chinese name if you really want a three-worder: Ke Jian Ming.

This week I had a few people ask me about the Harry Potter re-read, starting July 31st, so I set up a page where you can get all the details, including a linky to sign up if you want.
When I created the page I also realised I was unhappy with the layout of the menus on the blog, so you will notice that it has changed drastically. The main menu is a lot smaller, but the secondary menu above the header has all the old links, and it seems to work better for me. Everything is still there, it should just be clearer now. I also finally got around to adding sub-genres in my Young Adult category – so now you can search for books on Angels, Vampires or Other Paranormals, Dystopian, Steampunk, YA Fantasy or YA Science Fiction.

Lots of books this week, mostly for upcoming blog tours (links to Goodreads pages):

  • Arson by Estevan Vega – for the blog tour coming up
  • Bridger and Traitor by Megan Curd – also for blog tours
  • The White Thread by K. B. Hoyle – I’m excited about this one, it’s the third in the series, and I’ve enjoyed The Six and The Oracle so far (reviews here).
  • Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff – I can’t wait to read this!
  • A Corner of White by Jaclyn Morarty – I heard of this last week on Mandee’s Stacking the Shelves, and then the publisher offered me one when I asked for Stormdancer

I also bought three books (links to Goodreads):

Under the Read Three, Buy One scheme, I should have read at nine books to break even this week, so let’s see how I did (links to my reviews):

  1. Empyreal Fate by Rachel Hunter
  2. Nightfall by Will Elliott
  3. Unrest by Michelle Harrison
  4. Pretties by Scott Westerfeld
  5. My Soul to Keep by Rachel Vincent
  6. Reaper by Rachel Vincent (Goodreads review only because it’s a novella!)
  7. My Soul to Steal by Rachel Vincent

Almost! I’m behind again, but only by two books.

That’s the end of my book haul for the week. I hope you have some goodies to share as well, leave your links below and I’ll be sure to visit 🙂

Happy Reading!

I just firstly want to say…. *SQUEEEEEEE* I love Robert Sheehan! I think he is fabulous! 🙂

I’m not so sure about the re-release covers for Across the Universe. I was drawn into the first cover and absolutely love them so I don’t think I’ll be converting! As for the Tempest and Vortex covers, they are stunning! I haven’t bought Tempest yet, but that is the one I’ll be getting! I can’t wait for Wolf Pack to be released and that is another stunning cover!

I also got A Corner of White – I love Jaclyn Moriarty so much and am so excited to get a start of this one!!

    Thanks for sharing! 😀

I don’t mind the cover re-designs for Across the Universe – I think they’ll appeal to sci-fi fans instead of being marketed just as YA! There seems to be a lot of cover re-designs lately!

And yay for A Corner of White, I really hope you enjoy it and I must get myself a copy of Stormdancer!

I’m not a fan at all of the Across the Universe cover redesign, but obviously, my opinion doesn’t count. And I don’t really understand the re-desinged cover for Tempest- I just think it’s a bit pointless.

Anyways, Stormdancer looks really fabulous! I’ve already heard great things, and the summary just sounds awesome. And Seraphina also looks great!

    Fabulous haul! =)
