Stocktake Saturday 20

September 15, 2012 Stocktake Saturday 0

Welcome to Stocktake Saturday! This feature is where I share some news with you and then show you all the bookish goodies I got over the week.

New covers! (links to Goodreads)

  • With All My Soul (Soul Screamers #7) by Rachel Vincent – oh I love the gold. So pretty, I can’t wait to read this!
  • Fractured Soul (Fractured Light #2) by Rachel McClellan
  • Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout – Official placeholder cover – it doesn’t look like the Opal cover will be reddish after all!
  • Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan – UK/AU cover – what I love about this cover is that Kami hasn’t been white-washed. I still think I prefer the shiny goodness of the US hardback cover though!
  • Fireblood (Fireblood #1) by Trisha Wolfe

Melissa Marr has revealed the title of the sequel to her newly released CoS: it will be titled Theatre of Deceit  and is expected to be published in 2013, not 2014 as earlier suggested. She announced it over Twitter, but then added that she isn’t sure if she is allowed to reveal the title yet – suggesting it may not be the final title after all. Only time will tell I guess 🙂 Melissa has also made available an early version of CoS, an alternate story of sorts, which you can read on her blog.

I reviewed Shift by Kim Curran this week, and was lucky enough to exchange a few tweets with her. In writing my review I asked her if Shift is part of a series, and she replied:

A series. The 2nd is called Control and the 3rd (fingers crossed) will be called Delete. And that’s an exclusive just for you!

So now we can eagerly await two more kick-butt titles from Strange Chemistry! In other Strange Chemistry news, Bryony Pearce has been signed by the imprint. Her novel The Weight of Souls is due from Strange Chemistry in Autumn 2013. You can read the original press release here, and the synopsis for The Weight of Souls follows:

16 year old Taylor Oh is cursed: if she is touched by the ghost of a murder victim then they pass a mark beneath her skin. She has three weeks to find their murderer and pass the mark to them – letting justice take place and sending them into the Darkness. And if she doesn’t make it in time? The Darkness will come for her… She spends her life trying to avoid ghosts, make it through school where she’s bullied by popular Justin and his cronies, keep her one remaining friend, and persuade her father that this is real and that she’s not going crazy.

And then Justin is murdered and everything gets a whole lot worse. Justin doesn’t know who killed him, so there’s no obvious person for Taylor to go after. The clues she have led her to the V Club, a vicious secret society at her school where no one is allowed to leave… And where Justin was dared to do the stunt which led to his death. Can she find out who was responsible for his murder before the Darkness comes for her? Can she put aside her hatred for her former bully to truly help him? And what happens if she starts to fall for him?

You can add The Weight of Souls to your Goodreads lists!

Have you read Sarah Reese Brennan’s Unspoken yet? I’m reading it now, and I think it’s amazing! There are two short prequel novellas available for the series: The Summer Before I Met You (told from Kami’s POV) and The Spring Before I Met You (told from Jared’s POV; scroll down to the first review and the link is there). Make sure you read them, I know I will!

If you have read Blood Red Road, the first book in Moira Young’s “Dust Lands” post-apocalyptic dystopian series, then you will be excited to know that there is an exclusive excerpt from the sequel available at the MTV Hollywood Crush site! The second novel, Rebel Heart, will be published next month, which gives those of us who haven’t read Blood Red Road (like me) some time to catch up! The webpage also has a link to a giveaway of Blood Red Road and an ARC of Rebel Heart!

The book trailer for Kat Zhang’s upcoming release What’s Left of Me (which I cannot wait to get my eager hands on!) has been released and you can watch it at EW’s Shelf Life website. This is the story of two girls who share the same body – one was meant to slowly fade away, leaving a dominant personality, but that never happened!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie began filming this week, and there already some photos from the sets available for your viewing pleasure at the Examiner website. Looking awesome! I hadn’t realised that the third book of the series, Mockingjay, will be released as two movies! I really don’t see how because Katniss didn’t really do anything in the final book, but we’ll see 🙂 I’m not sure how I feel about all my favourite books being turned into multiple movies …

Don’t forget that my Harry Potter re-read is going strong – there is still time to sign up if you wish. You can find details on the Harry Potter re-read page.

This week I am Waiting on … Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor.

I’ve had a much quieter week, since last week’s awesome. I received the following books for review: (links to Goodreads pages)

Last week I ended up one book ahead in my Read Three, Buy One book quota. This week I bought one book: The Lord of Lies by Sam Bowring (I’ve already read it, review next week).

I reviewed the following books:

  1. The Blinding Knife by Brent Weeks
  2. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire (Goodreads review only since it’s not SpecFic)
  3. Shift by Kim Curran
  4. Redemption by Veronique Launier
  5. Defiance by C.J. Redwine

So that leaves me 3 books ahead – this means I have unlocked a book purchase! Suggestions?

I hope you have some goodies to share as well, leave your links below and I’ll be sure to visit 🙂

Happy Reading!
